Bone B-1 Lancer in Action by Lou Drendel succinctly describes the
design, operations and fighting colours of America's current strategic
bomber.
The text commences with the background to the introduction of the Bone,
including its operational predecessors, and continues to detail the
specifications and operational history of the B-1 Lancer. Lou Drendel uses
his excellent Air Force contacts to once again call upon first-hand
accounts of pilots discussing the use of the B-1B at war. The campaigns
covered include Operations Desert Fox (Iraq, 1998), Noble Anvil (Kosovo,
1999) and even Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan, 2001/2).
This book follows Squadron/Signal’s popular “In Action” format with
colour cover art (this time by the author), two colour pages as a “centrefold”, helpful line drawings
and specifications spread over 50 pages in landscape format. As with the
rest of the series, the real backbone of these books are the multitude of
photographs packed between the covers. Around 100 photos are captioned in
detail.
Bone in Action is another interesting book from Squadron/Signal, and
will be especially useful to anyone planning to build the forthcoming Revell-Monogram
1/72 scale B-1 Lancer.
Recommended.
