WarbirdAeroPress.com is a website that has news, Galleries, Articles and more about the golden age of Air Racing. Their first batch of eight 1/48 scale decal sheets focus on model subjects that require only minor modification, including P-51B and D Mustangs, and an F8F-2 Bearcat.

The review sample covers "Galloping Ghost", a P-51D racer that won the 1947 Kendall air race. This is a stock Mustang except for the filling of cowl air vents and smoothing of the bumps for the navigation lights. Although the instructions do not mention it, the six fairings in the leading edge of the wing for the machine appear to have been removed and smoothed over too.

All the markings are contained on a 4.5" x 2.5" decal sheet. The instructions are supplied on a single side of a letter-sized sheet. The instructions include two reference photos of the real aircraft but no decal placement guide. This would have been helpful for some of the smaller or ambiguous markings. Helpful notes are also provided for the minor conversion work and the colours of this Racer.

The decals have been printed by Fantasy Workshop. Carrier film is kept to a minimum, and registration is perfect. My only concern is that some of the fonts used on the decal sheet do not match with the style or proportions seen on the Reference photos.

WarbirdAeroPress.com's "Galloping Ghost" sheet will be a simple way to achieve a very different look for your Tamiya or Hasegawa Mustangs.

Recommended.

Thanks to Scott of WarbirdAeroPress.com for the review sample.
