Ultracast has carved (or, more accurately, cast) a reputation as a fine producer of first-rate resin figures and accessories for aircraft and armour models. In particular, Ultracast has become synonymous with resin replacement seats and exhausts for 1/48 scale aircraft.

This new batch of releases will add detail and provide accurate options for British variants of Eduard's 1/48 scale P-400/P-39 Airacobra kits.

Casting of all parts is up to Ultracast’s high standards. The releases are as follows:

48106 - P-39 Airacobra Seats (with American Harness)
48107 - P-39 Airacobra Seats (with British Sutton Harness)

Ultracast has applied its resin magic to the Airacobra seat. Two separate releases are available - one with the US-style harness and one with the distinctive British Sutton Harness. Photographs show that the Sutton Harness was used in RAF and RAAF operated P-39s, so these will be a valuable accessory for anybody contemplating an Airacobra in Commonwealth service.

As usual, the drape and detail of the harnesses is very realistic on both sets. Each set includes two seats.

48108 - P-39/P-400 12 Stack Exhausts
48109 - P-39/P-400 Tubular Exhausts
48110 - P-39/P-400 Flared Exhausts
48111 - P-39/P-400 British Fishtail Exhausts

Ultracast offers four different P-39/P-400 exhaust options with these latest releases. The exhausts are finer in shape and subtler in detail than their plastic Eduard counterparts, and the British fishtail exhaust is not offered in the kit as an option at all.

The parts are crisply cast with almost no cleanup required before use. The seam lines and raised lip on each exhaust stack are all there. Of course, the pipes are hollow as well.

These hollowed out pipes are especially impressive on the 12 stack exhausts. The lip of each stack is mind-bogglingly narrow, yet the "holes" in the end of each stack are perfectly rendered.

Conclusion

These will be a very attractive and relevant accessory for anyone building the Eduard P-39/P-400 family of kits, but they will be especially valuable for building a British or Commonwealth operated Airacobra.

Highly Recommended
