The Messerschmitt Bf 109G/K must be one of the most popular modelling subjects of the last decade. This is not surprising. With around 30,000 Bf 109s seeing service, there is no lack of subject matter. Furthermore, Hasegawa has fuelled the habit of 109 addicts with their beautiful series of 1/48 scale Bf 109E/F/G and K models.

Sky Models of Italy have produced a new set of decals that will allow modellers to put a new spin on the 109 theme.

This single, well printed set documents 11 subjects in the instructions and another few unannounced aircraft on the decal sheet. The colours look very good and registration on my sample is perfect. A small separate sheet with a white spinner spiral is also included.

Another nice touch is the inclusion of aircraft numbers 0-9 for 364^ and 365^ Squadriglia, permitting any aircraft in these units to be built.

Subjects range from several Bf 109G6s, G-14s, a couple of G-10s and a K-4.

The illustrations on the instructions are somewhat basic. Some help from either the Monogram "The Messerschmitt 109 in Italian Service 1943-1945"; or the Squadron "Regia Aeronautica" books (all by D'Amico and Valentino) will be needed for total accuracy. These books will also help modellers identify the undocumented decals on the sheet including Black 11, Black 7, Blue Chevron and White 1.

The instructions suggest that all aircraft are finished in 74/75 Greys on the upper surfaces. This is unlikely for the G-10s, and almost certainly incorrect for the K-4. Check your references carefully.

Armed with the appropriate reference, this decal sheet will form the basis for much inspiration and a very different look for your Hasegawa Bf 109 kits.

Highly Recommended for all Regia Aeronautica enthusiasts.
