F i r s t   L o o k

 

The most prominent feature when looking in the open canopy of a model aircraft will usually be the pilot's seat. With their growing range of resin replacement seats in 1/48 scale, Ultracast make sure that this feature will look its best under the gaze of judges and other admirers.

This range now includes seats for the Avenger, the Dauntless and the Helldiver.

These seats are cast beautifully in light cream coloured resin. The delicate armrests and frames of the Avenger seats have a whisper of almost transparent flash. As is the norm with Ultracast's seats, these sets are connected to the casting block with two remarkably thin strips of resin. A sharp hobby knife will easily take care of removal and clean-up.

The Avenger sets include two pilot's seats. Optional sets are available for early war models (with lap harness) and the standard model (with lap and shoulder harnesses). Each seat features integrally cast rear frame and armrests. The inclusion of these fine details, standing proud of the solid seat, represents a very clever piece of casting.

The Dauntless sets comprise one Pilot's seat and one Gunner's seat. Once again, different sets are offered for the lap harness only, or the full shoulder harness.

Only the full harness is offered for the Helldiver's pilot seat. An observer's seat rounds out this offering.

The texture of the harnesses, the buckles and the drape all combine to create a very realistic and three-dimensional effect on all the seats reviewed.

I personally feel that Ultracast replacement seats are some of the best, simplest and most effective accessories available. They will dress up your model's cockpit with a minimum of fuss. These latest releases continue Ultracast's tradition of fine quality accessories for interesting modelling subjects in 1/48 scale.
